Do I Need Permission from Patients to Send them Emails?

Summary:

Canada's Anti-Spam Law requires you to receive permission from your patients before you can send them email and SMS messages (for ABELDent Portal users). To ensure you are in compliance with the law, ABELDent allows you to track and provide evidence of when patient consent was given, by whom and in what form (implicit, explicit or declined).

Note: To find out more about your responsibilities under Canada's Anti-Spam Law, visit the CRTC website or Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation website.

To Record Contact Permissions:

1. Open the patient’s record.

2. On the Personal tab, click Edit.

3. In the Contact Information section, click the   button.

The Edit Contact Permission dialog appears.

4. Click Edit.

5. Click on the permission type and then click one of the following to indicate the patient has given you:

 implicit permission
 explicit permission
   declined permission

4. Click the Assign button

5. Click OK.
