ABELDent Voice Activated Perio Charting
Summary:
To support ABELDent's Voice Activated Perio Charting the following components require configuration on the computer used for Voice Charting.
- A properly functioning sound card with microphone input
- A good quality Microphone Headset
- Voice Recognition software ( MS Speech 3.0 SDK)
Steps:
- To install MS Speech 3.0 SDK insert the ABELDent CD into CD ROM drive.
- Select the Navigate CD Extras Button that appears on the ABELDent splash screen
- Doubleclick the folder named Freeware
- Doubleclick the folder named MS Speech
- Double click the file sdk30s.exe
- Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
- Accept the License Agreement displayed
- Select OK to install MS Speech SDK in the location specified (change the information only if you wish to install MS Speech onto a different hard drive or partition)
- If you receive a message that the folder does not exist, select Yes to create it
- Do not interrupt the file copy process.
- Select OK to install MS Voice in the location specified (change the information only if you wish to install MS Speech onto a different hard drive or partition)
- If you receive a message that the folder does not exist, select Yes to create it
Select OK to acknowledge that the MS Speech and Voice applications have been successfully installed
Enabling Voice Activated Perio:
Once MS Speech 3.0 SDK is installed onto your computer, enabling of the Voice Activation for ABELDent Perio is necessary.
- Start ABELDent.
- Open any patient file and select the PERIO tab.
- Select Perio from the menu bar found at the top of the ABELDent window.
- From the drop down menu, select Options.
- Check the selection box for Use Voice Recognition. This option will enable voice recognition in the Perio component
Training Voice Recognition Software:
To maximize the benefit of the voice activated Perio module it is highly recommended that the Voice Recognition software be trained to recognize your voice for specific commands.
There are 2 menu items related to voice that can be used to change voice settings. These are found under the Perio option on the menu bar found at the top of the ABELDent window.
- Voice - Train General
- Voice Microphone Setup
The microphone should also be calibrated to make sure all commands are heard correctly. This can be done from the "Voice Microphone Setup" option.
Charting using Voice Commands
Voice commands can be used to chart Pocket measurements, recession, mobility and furcation. The following example describes how to chart Pocket measurements using voice commands.
- From the Perio Tab select the desired mode by saying the word "Pocket Mode"
- Select the Advance Right (Fast Forward) button by saying the words "Advance right"
- Speak the numeric commands to plot your values for each tooth as it automatically advances.
