What is the Blue U in the Treatment tab in ABELDent?

Summary:

A blue U may be present on each line of the billed codes in the patient's Treatment Tab.

More Information:

The blue U is an indication that the patient has insurance setup in ABELDent and the code(s) billed has(ve) not yet been printed on an insurance form or sent EDI.

In order for the blue
U to appear, you must have "Hold unprinted receipt items" checked in your System Setup and the patient must have an insurance plan setup in their file.

To verify your System Setup in ABELDent:

  • Click on File
  • Click on Update
  • Click on System Setup
  • Click on the Options tab

If you do not print an insurance form or send the claim EDI on the date of service, the code(s) with the blue U will remain and be picked up the next time you print an insurance form or send EDI; you will get a warning about these unprinted items/codes when you go to the Receipt/Insurance Forms menu:

Drop Outstanding Items:

If you do not want the old items/codes picked up on the current days insurance form or EDI submission, you may go into Drop Old Items (on the Receipt/Insurance Forms menu) and check DROP for each code you do not want to print/send EDI:

NOTE:  once a code has been marked as "DROP", you will never be able to print that code again nor send it EDI.

Hold Outstanding Items:

If you would like to continue to hold the item(s) with the blue U, you may go into "Hold Back Items" to uncheck PRINT;  the blue U will remain on the codes and you will have the option to pick them up on the next insurance form / EDI submission:
