What's the Difference Between Insurance Plan and Insurance Carrier
Explanation:
In order to be able to setup the required information in both the Insurance Plan file and Insurance Carrier file, you must first understand the reason for having both files.
- The Insurance Plan File contains all the detailed coverage information specific to the patients insurance plan.
- The Insurance Carrier File contains a listing of all insurance companies who are the insurers of the Plans. The Insurance Carrier File contains all the EDI information required for a claim to be submitted electronically.
Insurance plans for which you will be submitting claims electronically must be linked to an Insurance Carrier, even if the insurance plan name is the same as the insurance carriers.
