See Security Modes and Authorization Manager Members in the Help file for instructions or contact your Administrator.

Steps:

To Create a Prescription:

1. On the Medications tab, click the New button to display the prescription fields.

2. Click the Create a Prescription radio button, if not already selected.

You can complete as many of the fields below as you like; however, you must select a Medication and a Stop After date in order to save the prescription.

3. In the Medication field, click the drop-down arrow and select a drug from the User-Defined Drugs list.

4. In the Dose field, accept the dosage shown, or type the dosage amount (whole numbers only), or click the down-arrow button and select a dosage from the list.

5. In the Units field, accept the unit of measurement shown for the drug being prescribed, such as cm, mg, etc., or click the down-arrow and select a different unit.

6. In the Form field, accept the form shown such as capsule, pill, gel, spray, etc., or click the down-arrow and select a different form.

7. In the Quantity field, type the quantity to be taken, or click the down-arrow button and select a quantity from the list.

8. In the Note /Special Instructions field, type any special instructions to the pharmacist, if necessary. In the Frequency field, click the drop-down arrow and select how often the medicine should be taken. Click the second drop-down arrow and specify the time frame for the frequency you entered (e.g. hour, day, etc.).

9. In the Route field, click the down-arrow button and select by what route the medicine is to be delivered (e.g. sublingual, injection, etc.).

10. If the pharmacist wants to substitute the medication with a generic alternative, leave the May Substitute Generic box checked. Otherwise, click to remove the check mark.

11. Check the Long Term box if the medication is being prescribed for a lengthy period of time. The Start field automatically displays the current date, and cannot be changed.

12. In the Rpts field, type the number of refills allowed,or click the down-arrow and select a number from the list.

13. In the ID field, type the patient's personal identification number. Patients are required to provide personal ID to pharmacists in order to receive prescription narcotics and controlled substance medications. The ID can be their Health Card number, a Driver’s License, etc. The number will remain stored on the Medications tab and will appear on the printed prescription

14. In either of the Stop After fields, type or select the number of days, weeks, months or years the patient should continue to take the medication. A Stop After date must be entered, otherwise, you will receive an error message.

In the Prescribing Provider field, the name of the logged on Provider will be shown.

15. Click Save.

16. If a message appears stating the drug cannot be prescribed, and it is a user-defined drug, make sure the Can Prescribe option is checked on the User-Defined list.

The prescription medication now appears in the Medication History window.
