
Summary:
The following are steps that will enable you to move ABELDent to a different computer or drive on existing computer.
Preparation:
- Check the version of ABELDent by -clicking on Help and selecting About
- ABELDent Get the ABELDent CD for the current version you are using for software installation
Steps:
Moving ABELDent to another Drive on same computer
- Double-click My Computer
- Double-click on the Drive where ABELDent resides
- Single-click on ABELDent folder
- Click on Edit menu and choose Copy
- Move to the root of drive where you would like ABELDent to reside
- Click on Edit menu and choose Paste (the entire ABELDent folder will now copy over, this could take several minutes)
- After the copy is complete go back to ABELDent folder in its original location
- Right-click on original ABELDent folder and select Sharing and Security
- Click to select Do not share this folder option
- Click OK
- Single-click on the original ABELDent folder
- Click on File menu and choose Re-name.
- Type in ABELDentold
- Press Enter key (The folder is now re-named and will stop possibility of being used by error)
- Re-install ABELDent software (Refer to installation instructions provided with ABELDent software)
*** Note: Ensure that the new drive letter is indicated as new path upon re-installation ie., d:\ABELDent
Moving ABELDent to another Computer
- Use a media device to back up the entire ABELDent folder ie., Tape, CD, Zip or other
- Use that media to restore ABELDent to C: drive on the new computer
- If all computers are networked you can copy the entire ABELDent folder over the Network to the C drive on the new computer.
- Install the ABELDent application (the same version that you were using on your original computer) over top of the transferred data on the new computer (Refer to installation instructions provided with ABELDent software)
More Information:
- If you are moving ABELDent to another computer and going to re-use old computer as a client machine, follow steps 1-15, but re-install after new server is configured and the software installation will now be for a client.
- Have your IT consultant check the existing Backup system to ensure that it now looks to the new location to back up your ABELDent data.
- If you have moved ABELDent to another computer, you will require a new permanent license(s) for ABELDent. Contact Dental Support for a new permanent license by calling 800-263-5104 extension 2.
